Notes:  Shiloh Cemetery is of historical significance in the Cedar Key area of Levy County, FL. Members of many pioneer families of this area are buried there.

Many of the grave mounds are covered with clam and other shells neatly arranged in rows. This unique feature is frequently seen in cemeteries in the Cedar Key, FL, area. In addition to being a decorative tradition, shell coverings were  done to keep rain from washing the sand away from the grave mounds. Many of  the gravesites are noticeable only because of a scattering of shells.

There are approximately a hundred unmarked graves, almost as many as marked. Some graves are marked only with metal markers that are unreadable. Others are marked with plain slabs and/ or blocks, some with wooden sticks driven into the ground, and some are only covered with shells. Many of the unmarked shell covered graves appear to be for children as evidenced by their small size.

From time to time, individuals who were not family members were buried within marked family areas because Shiloh Cemetery is also used as a "Potter's Field". Members of the same families are often found buried in areas of the cemetery other than in the marked family plots.

Shiloh is maintained through twice yearly cleanings conducted by family members and other interested persons in
the area.
